Technology, Service and Advocacy
In order to fulfill my HKIS technology graduation requirement, I’ll be embarking on an independent study of the applications of technology and social media in service and advocacy.
In a way, this is a convergence of two of my long-standing passions: blogging (since 2005 on earlier incarnations of my WordPress blog) and service (“contributing to society”, something that the school emphasizes). I’ll be updating this blog every once in a while with updates on this independent study and posts relating to the role of technology in service and advocacy.
I’ll also be working on six projects related to this theme, with different service and advocacy groups at school, throughout the 2009-2010 school year. The projects are:
- Organizing a Blog Action Day blogging session at school and helping clubs start their own blogs (Done! Pictures can be seen here.)
- Using Animoto to make a short video for UNICEF’s Charity Marathon World’s Fair activities (Done!)
- Using Final Cult to make a video for my Service on Saturday: Heep Hong program (Done!)
- Designing layouts for Chuan Long Bilingual Magazine (Done! Read about my experience in creating these layouts and check them out here.)
- Building a website for UNICEF (Done! Visit the website here and read about how I made it here.)
- …And running a blog about my independent study (this blog)
